Gajapati: In the Gajapati district of Odisha, Kidigaon village was thrown into chaos after more than 63 goats were discovered dead and another 28 severely injured in what was likely a wild animal attack.

According to sources, the incident was discovered Friday after villagers noticed the carcasses and reported them to the neighbourhood police and veterinary officials. The damaged and dead goats belonged to B Ramnath and B Krishna, and they had their guts taken out and deep wounds on their throats.

Following their notification, a group of veterinary physicians, local police, and forest officials travelled to the community to conduct an autopsy on the deceased goats and treat the injured.

The carcasses were disposed of correctly following a joint examination by the block veterinary officer, revenue inspector, and forest workers. According to chief district veterinarian (CDVO) Girish Kumar Mohanty, some of the injured animals are in severe condition.

According to him, although veterinary officials have not ruled out attacks by wolves or jackals, they believe wild dogs may have attacked the sheep.

Notably, the cattle that was attacked was contained. However, according to the sources, the wild animals did not hurt sheep held in other enclosures.

The government was encouraged by the people to help Ramnath and Krishna, who supported themselves by raising goats, in the meantime.
