1.03kg brown sugar seized, 4 arrested by STF in Khordha

Bhubaneswar: During a raid in the Odisha town of Khurda, the STF of Crime Branch seized brown sugar weighing more than 1 kg and detained 4 people in this connection.

A team from the STF conducted the raid at Khurda on Saturday in response to information about an illegal drug deal and the possession of narcotics.

Brown sugar weighing 1.30 kg and costing more than Rs 1 crore was discovered during the search and taken from their possession. The accused were sent to the District and Sessions-cum-Special Judge's court in Khurda because they were unable to present any legitimate documentation to support their possession of the illegal substance for which they were detained.

The accused have been identified as Jagabandhu Biswal of Swapeneswar Sahi, Samantarapur close to Bhubaneswar, Rakesh Kumar Barik and Biranchinarayan Sahoo of Kochilabana Sahi within the Khurda police station limits, and Santosh Routray of Saguan Bagicha within the Khurda police limits.

According to the NDPS Act of 1985, the STF has opened a case and is conducting additional research.

According to a release, the STF has arrested more than 156 drug dealers/peddlers since 2020 and has seized more than 55 kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202 grammes of cocaine, more than 111 quintals of ganja, and 750 grammes of opium.
