Cuttack: In the Cuttack district of Odisha on Thursday, excise agents searched a car on suspicion of transporting ganja and discovered a significant amount of silver bricks and jewellery inside.

According to authorities, the Excise officials stopped the car at the toll gate at Tangi in the district after receiving information about the ganja being smuggled in the car. When they checked the car, they discovered multiple silver bricks, jewellery, and about Rs 14 lakh in cash, which they confiscated.

Over 100 kg of seized silver bricks were placed in a hidden compartment in the car that was likely purpose-built for smuggling. Two other passengers in the automobile have also been detained by the authorities.

After questioning, the two people admitted to Excise officers that they were transporting the commodities to a location in West Bengal's Kharagpur. One of them claimed they received Rs 4,000 for transporting the products. The sources claimed they were moving the seized goods for the second time.

"We had raided on the basis of a possible marijuana transportation crime. We have notified GST officials for the appropriate inquiry because cash, silver bricks, and jewellery have been confiscated, a senior Excise official was quoted as saying by a local TV station.
