3 Arrested For Stealing Liquor Worth Rs 56 Lakh In Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Three people were detained for allegedly stealing liquor worth Rs 56 lakh from an alcohol manufacturing and bottling business in Bhubaneswar's Bhagabanpur industrial sector.
The facility, which is under the control of the Tomando police station, delivers booze to several government warehouses throughout the state. According to investigators, it has a deal with a private transportation firm to transport liquor to various sites.
On January 5, the liquor company requested that the transport company offer 10-wheeler vehicles to convey the consignments to Rayagada, Sambalpur, and Raipur.
Because the shipping company only had two vehicles, it contacted a trucking association for a heavy vehicle. According to sources, the association made touch with one of the suspects, Sonu Kumar Jena (33) of Angul district, who offered to provide a 10-wheeler truck and deliver the package.
Jena, the main accused in the case, and his two accomplices from Bolagarh, Bhaskar Chandra Samantray (31) and Biswajeet Mohanty (19), failed to deliver the package at the appointed facility.
On January 9, the liquor company filed a complaint with Tamando police station after the authorized depot failed to accept the consignment. Police initiated an investigation and set up a trap to apprehend the offenders. Efforts are being made to apprehend two more people engaged in the incident.
The accused was caught with 150 cartons of booze, each containing 24 bottles, out of almost 900 stolen boxes of liquor. The truck used in the incident was also seized, according to police, who added that the stolen booze was worth roughly Rs 56 lakh.
Jena, who works in the transportation industry, has a criminal history, according to police, who said that roughly 25 charges, including one for murder, are pending against him in several locations.
