Bhubaneswar: Sunil Bansal, Director General of Police (DGP), said on Friday that the investigation into the murder of Health Minister Naba Das was underway to look into all possible angles of the crime because the accused, Gopal Das,' confession was insufficient to convict him.

"The criminal is known as we have video evidence and can file a chargesheet, but the investigation is on to rule out any angle or anything which we may not be seeing right now. We should not jump to any conclusions and should instead concentrate on evidence rather than figments of imagination or wild allegations.

A good investigation follows the principle of leaving all options open. Whatever evidence or clues emerge during the investigation, we will pursue them to their logical conclusion," he said, breaking his five-day silence on the case.

The DGP also stated that ADG Crime Branch Arun Bothra, a former CBI officer, had been camping at the scene and personally investigating the case. A retired Orissa High Court judge is overseeing the entire investigation.

"We have contacted Central Forensic Science Laboratory and I have personally discussed the matter with Home Ministry officials and they assured us to extend all possible help. "A CSFL team will be visiting Odisha to conduct a scientific investigation," Bansal explained.

The assistance of the CFSL has also been requested in order to conduct a forensic psychological assessment and layered voice analysis test on the accused ASI in order to learn about his mental state.

He went on to say that the central government has promised to assist with the investigation in any way it can. "The seized objects, including the handwritten notes, will be sent for forensic examination. "Commenting on that before the examination would be premature," he said.

"It is hidden in a person's mind, and there is no machine that can read a person's mind," he said of the motive for the murder. We must consider all circumstances, from his appointment with Odisha police to the day of the incident."

Notably, the accused has maintained that he was acting alone in his plan to eliminate Naba out of personal hatred.

Answering a question regarding the alleged bipolar disorder of the accused, the DGP said, "It's important to ascertain if he had bipolar disorder and also whether did it contribute to the crime. I'm not qualified to say whether he had bipolar disorder or not. An expert can tell you how much it contributed to the crime."

According to the DGP, the PSO's role in the murder is also being investigated. "He has been placed on leave. If he is found to be in breach of duty, the appropriate action will be taken against him. "We are taking precautions to ensure that such incidents do not occur again," Bansal added.

On January 29, the health minister was shot in the chest by Gopal Das, a former ASI of police, at Gandhi Chhak in Jharsuguda's Brajrajnagar. He was flown to Bhubaneswar but died while receiving treatment at a private hospital here.
