Cuttack: A seven-year-old boy died after a school gate allegedly collapsed and fell on him in Odisha's Cuttack district's Athagarh area.
Chiku Naik of Ankula village has been identified as the deceased.
According to sources, Chiku and other students were playing near the gate of Satyabadi nodal upper primary school on Friday. The iron gate collapsed on the children. While others were able to flee, Chicku became trapped beneath the gate and had to be rescued.
He was taken to the Athagarh sub-divisional hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police have begun an investigation into the incident in response to a complaint.
The incident, which sent shockwaves throughout the area, has raised concerns about the safety of children in schools with dangerous infrastructure.
