Bhubaneswar: On Saturday, a member of the Nimapada Zone 11 Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Zilla Parishad was discovered hanged in his home in the Sishupalgarh neighbourhood of the capital of Odisha.

Dharmendra Sahoo, the dead, was a native of the Khandiakuda village in the Gop block of the Puri district.

Sahoo arrived home late on Friday night and was discovered hanged up.

After receiving a call, the Dhauli police and a scientific team went to the scene and found his dead.

Sahoo had mentioned videos on his two mobile phones in a Facebook post approximately four hours prior to being discovered hanging. He also suggested that the videos be made public.

According to his in-laws, he allegedly had regular fights with his wife and was an alcoholic.

"He used to reside in motels and binge drink for the past three months. Recently, we had taken him home after a comparable occurrence," Sahoo's father-in-law said to a private news programme.

Along with saying that "he always tried to extort money from me," Sahoo's father-in-law also claimed that he was torturing his wife in order to get money.

Police are looking into the situation.
