Berhampur college ragging: Main accused BJD college campus convenor

Berhampur: The ragging episode at Binayak Acharya Government College in Odisha's Berhampur city took an unexpected turn when it was discovered that the main offender, Abhisekh Nayak, was also the convenor of the campus committee of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) students' wing.

The discovery sparked a firestorm, with many questioning his nomination and role in the incident, given that a convenor is in charge of preserving order on campus.

Another student wing representative said that Abhisekh had previously been sacked, however some media sources stated that Berhampur students' wing president Sovan Nayak had proposed his removal from the job following his detention to Biju Chhatra Janata Dal state president.

On the other hand, Congress leader Pitabasa Panda claimed that the ruling party had been encouraging particular student groups on college campuses, which was the primary cause of the ragging episode.

Notably, the Plus III second-year student is one of three people detained by police following an investigation into an alleged ragging video that went viral. According to authorities, he was also arrested by Badabazar police in March in connection with an assault case.

Meanwhile, the officials at Binayak Acharya Government College have expelled 12 students for their involvement in junior ragging.

The viral video showed the accused abusing a Plus II first-year girl student. While stealing her bag and phone, one of them was seen kissing her hand in front of other college students.
