Residents of the capital must obtain authorization from the city body to have pet dogs
Bhubaneswar: Following the recent dog-biting incident, residents of Odisha's capital will now have to get Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) permission to keep a pet at home.
"Adoption of pets will require prior approval." They must provide a declaration for keeping pets of any breed and prove that they are properly caring for them. A veterinary doctor must confirm whether or not the dog has been vaccinated. Aside from that, existing pet owners will need to register their canines. They must sign a guarantee that their pet will not do harm to others," BMC commissioner Vijay Kulange told the reporters on Friday.
He stated that detailed guidelines would be issued the following week.
He also stated that owners should not allow their pets to defecate in public locations.
According to reports, the rules would include provisions for persons who have dogs or cows as pets to voluntarily submit information about the animals with the BMC and ensure that they have a suitable area to maintain them.
According to the sources, the civic body would develop the guidelines after consulting with the Animal Welfare Board in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Bengaluru, and Cochin.
Notably, on November 6, an American Akita dog was barred from a luxury neighbourhood within the city after biting an eight-year-old youngster. He had suffered significant injuries and was in intensive care for a few days.
