Brajarajnagar by-poll: Counting of votes to begin at 8 am tomorrow
Bhubaneswar: On Friday, the ballots for the critical Brajrajnagar Assembly seat in Jharsuguda, Odisha, will be counted.
Sushil Lohani, the state's chief electoral officer, announced on Thursday that voting will begin at 8 a.m. at the Jharsuguda Engineering College. He stated that there will be a total of 20 rounds of counting.
"The counting of postal ballots will begin at 8 a.m., and the counting of EVMs will begin at 8.30 a.m. There will be 14 counting tables, each with three staff members. "There will be 60 people total," Lohani stated.
"Candidates will be able to appoint agents to oversee the counting." Each table will have a counting assistant, a counting supervisor, and a micro observer," he explained.
After each round of counting, the results will be announced.
"By around 3 p.m., we expect the counting process to be completed and the final result announced," he said.
"A three-tier security setup will be in place at the counting centre, with the CRPF, State Armed Police, and District Executive Force," stated Jharsuguda SP Rahul Jain.
The bypoll included 11 candidates in total.
The bypoll was called after Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Mohanty died of heart arrest on December 30 of previous year.
Alaka Mohanty, Kishore Mohanty's wife, is running for the BJD.
Kishore Chandra Patel is the Congress candidate, whereas Radharani Panda, who served in the constituency from 2014 to 2019, is the BJP contender.
