New Delhi: On Monday at 4.30 p.m., Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is in Delhi for a three-day visit, meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi at South Block.

Naveen arrived at 12.30 p.m., making this his third trip to the national capital in the last two months. On Wednesday afternoon, he will return to Odisha.

The two leaders are scheduled to discuss the upcoming presidential election as well as various problems relevant to Odisha, such as the lifting of surplus parboiled rice and coal royalty, which are pending with the central government, according to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

The President's election is set to take place in July to pick Ram Nath Kovind's successor, who will serve until July 24, 2022. The support of regional parties like as the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) would be vital because the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is around 1.2 percent short of the total votes it needs to pass their candidate.

The BJD has 112 MLAs and 12 MPs, accounting for roughly 3% of the total vote value of 1,093,347.

In 2017, Naveen pledged support to BJP presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind, sparking speculation about a secret agreement between the two parties in the state. "As you all know, when the Presidential elections occured last time, BJD suggested the name of PA Sangma, a distinguished leader from the tribal community," Naveen had stated. Many parties, including the BJP, backed his nomination on the BJD's request."

"In light of this, and the fact that Mr Kovind is a prominent lawyer from the Scheduled Caste community," he continued, "BJD has chosen to endorse his campaign after consulting with senior party leaders."
