Bhawanipatna: Hundreds of animals were killed at the renowned Chhatar Jatra of Maa Manikeswari on Monday in the Kalahandi region of Odisha. When they were again permitted to participate in the event after a two-year break, about 30,000 people showed up to see.
Following secret procedures, the "Chhatar" of Maa Manikeswari was transported in a procession from the Manikeswari Temple to Jenakhol on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna, where it later returned.
The Orissa High Court's ruling prohibiting animal sacrifice during the Chhatar Jatra has been overturned by the Supreme Court.
