Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Tuesday that the byelection for the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency would take place on November 3.

Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar all have one assembly segment slated for by-elections, along with two. According to the ECI, the notification will be released on October 7 and nomination filing will start on October 14. The nominations will be examined the next day, and October 17 is the deadline for withdrawals. Votes will be counted on November 6 while voting takes place on November 3. By November 8, the electoral process would be finished.

After incumbent BJP MLA Bishnu Sethi passed away on September 19 at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar from kidney-related complications, a byelection for the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency became necessary. The two-time MLA spent the previous two months in the hospital. He was acting as the opposition's deputy leader in the assembly.
