Congress candidate Harekrushna Sethi files nomination for Dhamnagar by-poll

Bhadrak: On Thursday, Baba Harekshruna Sethi, a candidate for the Congress, submitted his nomination for the by-election to the Bhadrak district of Odisha's Dhamnagar Assembly constituency.

Sethi travelled in a procession from the district Congress office in Bhadrak to the collectorate to file the paperwork for the November 3 bypoll. He was accompanied by a battery of top officials and a sizable number of party workers.

Former PCC leaders Niranjan Patnaik and Jaydev Jena, as well as legislator Suresh Routray, were among those who accompanied the party's nominee. Sarat Pattanayak is the president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).

The PCC president took a strong stance against both the BJD and the BJP, claiming that only Congress is eager to serve the public and work for their welfare while the other two major political parties are only concerned with maintaining power.

Claiming that the BJD's 22-year misrule in Odisha is the reason of the state's continued backwardness and poverty and that the BJD-led government at the federal level is to blame for an unprecedented spike in the cost of critical goods.

People in Dhamnagar, who are tired of the BJD and the BJP, are backing Congress, and they would make sure that the party's candidate wins the by-election, he claimed.

After the passing of Bishnu Sethi, who had won the 2019 election from Dhamnagar by a margin of 4625 votes, a byelection was required. In contrast to him, Rajendra K Das of the BJD received 75,486 votes.

In 2004, Manmohan Samal of the BJP won the seat; in 2009, Rajendra Das of the BJD and in 2014, Muktikanta Mondal of the BJD won it.
