Lawyers begin 12-hour bandh at Kamakshyanagar; normal life hit

Dhenkanal: Thursday saw a disruption of daily life in Kamakhyanagar, in the Dhenkanal district of Odisha, where attorneys conducted a dawn to dark shutdown in protest of the attack on a colleague.

The Kamakhyanagar Bar Association declared a 12-hour bandh, which began at 6 AM and would go till 6 PM.

During the bandh, all motorised traffic was completely stopped, although businesses, stores, colleges, banks, and other public and private institutions remained closed.

The bandh was called in protest of a vicious attack on senior attorney Sasadhar Mohanty on September 28 by some miscreants in a restaurant. Mohanty suffered severe wounds and is currently in critical condition in the ICU of a private hospital in Cuttack.

It has been claimed that the Kamakhyanagar police did little to address the matter.

"Miscreants attacked the senior attorney 15 days ago, but authorities have not yet investigated the incident. We have no choice but to go on a 12-hour bandh. We will escalate our protest if the offenders are not quickly apprehended, lawyer Birabara Panigrahi warned the media.
