Balasore: After a giant crocodile was discovered in the floodwater of the swollen Jalaka river, which has swamped numerous villages, panic broke out in some parts of the flood-stricken Balasore district in Odisha.

According to accounts, on Tuesday night in the Jaleswar area, a large crocodile was spotted swimming in the floodwater of Jalaka, frightening the villagers nearby.

Despite the fact that the reptile has not yet hurt any locals, the villagers are terrified because they believe it may do so now that large regions have been swamped by the floodwaters of Jalaka.

Locals claim that many individuals are still stranded in perilous situations as a result of the submersion of large areas and the migration of crocodiles in floodwater.

When a video of the lizard floating in the floodwater went viral on social media, the worries of the locals were made worse.

Despite the fact that Jalaka's water level has significantly decreased, the river was still running at Mathani at 6.41 metres per second as opposed to the danger mark of 5.5 metres.

Crocodile sightings in Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur districts, where two enormous reptiles were observed in the floodwaters last week, were reported shortly after similar incidences there.

A crocodile was seen in the Paika River floodwaters in the Kujang neighbourhood of Jagatsinghpur, while two large reptiles were seen in the Dasarathpur subdivision of the Jajpur district.
