Two siblings die as wall collapses in Baripada

Baripada: In a village in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, a ten-year-old girl and her younger brother perished when the mud wall of their home fell as a result of nonstop rain.

The event took place late on Monday in the district's Raidiha hamlet, which is part of the Udala block. Jahsoda Singh and Jyoti Shankar Singh, both 6 years old, have been named as the deceased, they claimed.

According to authorities, the family was asleep when a wall of their thatched home collapsed, trapping the children underneath it, where they perished. The mother of the children and her other son, however, managed to escape unharmed.

After days of nonstop rain, some of the mud structure had gotten wet and brittle, and one of the walls had collapsed.

Notably, at least six fatalities were reported last week as a result of wall collapse accidents that occurred in various parts of Odisha as a result of persistent rains brought on by a strong depression over the Bay of Bengal.

The districts of Koraput, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj recorded the majority of the casualties.
