Bhubaneswar: Following the alleged attack on BJP workers by BJD members in Mayurbhanj district, a member of the BJP Mahila Morcha has accused governing party workers in Angul of similar aggressive activity.

Sanju Sahu, a local leader of the BJP women's wing, went to the district headquarters hospital in Angul on Monday to see the grieving family of BJD activist Banita Sahu, who died in the hospital, according to reports.

According to a complaint submitted by BJP volunteers in Angul police station, some members of Biju Yuva Bahini who were present during Sanju's visit reportedly assaulted her.

According to a BJP Mahila Morcha representative in the region, the police's inactivity on the problem after submitting a complaint demonstrates the state government's apathy to women's safety.

Some BJD members allegedly followed and beat BJP and JMM supporters for waving black flags during chief minister Naveen Patnaik's visit to Baripada on October 23. In the incident, four people were injured, including the convener of the BJP State Yuva Morcha.

Local BJD leader Sujit Prasad Dwivedi refuted the BJP accusation, saying that no BJP workers had been assaulted by his party members.
