Deogarh MLA held for allegedly thrashing BDO

Bhubaneswar: Police detained three people on Sunday, including Deogarh MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi, for allegedly assaulting a Block Development Officer (BDO).

Following a complaint submitted by the BDO of Tileibani block, Krushnachandra Dalapati, alleging that the MLA and his aides battered him savagely at Chhepalipali village, Panigrahi was detained from his official quarters in Bhubaneswar.

Akalu Dhal and Kumarmani Sahoo have been named as the other people arrested.

The BDO was notified about Panigrahi visiting the former's office while he was on an inspection of a school in Dudihiana panchayat on Saturday, according to a complaint filed with the Deogarh police station.

Dalapati notified the officers accompanying the MLA that he would see him after completing an inquiry at Bhaliagudi village under Chepilipalli panchayat about a case in the Orissa High Court.

While going home from the BDO office, the BJP legislator ran into Dalapati near Bhaliagudi and attacked and kicked him, injuring his face and body.

The BDO claimed he had treated the MLA with respect and had respectfully informed them that he would meet him after returning from Chhepalipali.

He also brought the situation to the collector's attention, and the district police organised a special team to look into it.

The MLA also filed a counter-complaint, stating that the government officer had misbehaved with him.
