Paradip: The family of a young man who died under unusual circumstances after being apprehended by Abhaychandapur police in Paradip on Saturday has claimed he died in custody.
Manoranjan Gedi was recognised as the adolescent.
Gedi's family claims he was tortured after being apprehended by police in a narcotics investigation.
The youth's family said that the post-mortem was conducted hurriedly at night and that the police told them that he died in an accident. Family members questioned why he was sent to a hospital in Jagatsinghpur rather than Paradip by the police.
"My son has never been involved in any illegal activities." He spent the entire day at home. In the evening, he left with one of his pals. The cops initially refused to let me view his body. "I believe there has been foul play," the teen's father was reported as saying.
Two youths on a motorcycle were carrying brown sugar, according to IIC Jibanananda Jena of the Abhaychandur police station. While one of them was apprehended, the other attempted to run but fell off his bike.
