Bhubaneswar: Opinions and exit polls will be prohibited when voting for the bye-election to the Dhamnagar assembly constituency in Odisha.

The prohibition would be in effect from 7 am to 6.30 pm, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sushil Kumar Lohani, who gave a news briefing on Wednesday. He added that the results of exit polls or opinion surveys cannot be broadcast on news stations during this time.

The selling of alcohol will also be prohibited during this time. It is illegal to canvass for votes within one hundred metres of a voting place. According to him, violations are subject to arrest under Section 130 of the Representation of the People Act.

According to Lohani, 5 cases involving infractions of the poll code have been reported to the police. He noted that in one instance, a top official was moved to ECI.

The CEO added that all EMVs and polling parties had been sent out, along with other election supplies and security measures. Four poll workers have been placed at each booth, for a total of 1,008 poll workers. The man stated that the community hall, hotel, Dharamshala, and automobile movement are all being checked.

According to Lohani, the majority of the constituency's 252 booths are located in schools. The site has not changed, however the name of the booth has been altered to reflect the school's new name.

In the constituency's 2,38,417 voters, there are 1,23,038 men, 1,15346 women, and 33 transgender people.

The CEO stated that in addition to EPIC, voters may also carry 12 additional documents to exercise their right to vote. There are 15 model booths and 5 pink booths with female poll workers and security staff. He said that there would be a ramp, a separate line, and volunteers with wheelchairs for the Dibyang voters, and that pick-up and drop-off arrangements had been prepared for them.

He said 110 have been declared sensitive and special arrangements have been made for them. To ensure tight vigil, there will be webcasting in 126 booths.

As many as 1,000 police personnel and four companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed to maintain law and order, he added.
