Sambalpur: The Odisha government and police were blamed for the incidents that rocked the city during Hanumam Jayanti celebrations, according to the BJP fact-finding team, which launched its investigation into recent violence in Sambalpur.

The committee, chaired by BJP national president J P Nadda, launched an on-the-spot investigation into the April 12 and 14 violent incidents in the western Odisha city.

The investigation panel, comprised of four BJP MPs, arrived in the state on Monday before launching the on-the-spot investigation this morning. The committee will present the party president with a comprehensive factual report.

Brijlal from Uttar Pradesh, Samir Oraon and Aditya Sahu from Jharkhand, and Jyotirmay Singh Mahato from West Bengal are on the panel.

Brijlal, who heads the probe panel, stated that the violence appeared to be sponsored and carried out as a result of a failure on the part of the state government.

The team members went to the incident sites and spoke with the locals. They also went to a deceased person's village. He stated that once the investigation is completed, the panel will prepare a report that will be submitted to the party's chairman.

It should be noted that large-scale violence occurred in Sambalpur on April 12 during a bike rally organized by the organizers of a Hanuman Jayanti celebration, and again on April 14, when the main procession was taken out.

Several people were injured in the April 12 violence, including at least ten police officers. Several businesses and vehicles were also set on fire. Over 100 people have been arrested so far, and the police are looking for several more in connection with the city's violent incidents.
