Baripada: On Tuesday, an elderly woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in a village in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district's forest area.

According to sources, the incident occurred at Dahi Sahi in the district's Baripada forest rage when the woman went into a nearby forest to collect saal leaves.

Rani Naik (75), of the nearby Lada Jod area, has been identified as the deceased.

She was collecting leaves when a wild elephant appeared in front of her and trampled her to death.

When forest personnel were informed, they rushed to the scene and began an investigation into the incident. The woman's body was recovered and sent for a postmortem examination.
