BJD appoints fresh observers for 30 districts
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) appointed new observers for all 30 districts in Odisha on Monday, with an eye on the 2024 elections.
Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) appointed new observers for all 30 districts in Odisha on Monday, with an eye on the 2024 elections.
According to an office order, "the following BJD leaders have been appointed as district observers in supersession of all previous orders."
Pranab Prakash Das, the BJD's general secretary (organization), was appointed as an observer in the most important districts. Most importantly, he will work to strengthen the BJD in Angul and Dhenkanal, where Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is expected to run in the 2024 elections. He will also represent Sambalpur, which is represented by LoP Jayanarayan Mishra, who has recently been firing salvo after salvo against the Naveen Patnaik regime.
It is also speculated that Dharmendra may consider the Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency (currently represented by BJP's Nitesh Gangadev) if he believes it is'safer' than the Dhenkanal LS seat. From 2004 to 2009, he was the Member of Parliament for Deogarh.
Pranab Prakash, a key figure in the BJD with experience managing the party organization, will also serve as an observer for the Keonjhar district, which is rich in minerals and thus important in terms of resource mobilization.
While Pranab will be in charge of four districts, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Dibya Shankar Mishra will each be in charge of two, and the rest will be in charge of one.
Senior leaders Tukuni Sahu, Usha Devi, and Rohit Pujari were dropped from the list of observers released in October last year. The newcomers are Amaresh Jena (Deogarh), Rabindra Kumar Jena (Khurda), and Debesh Acharya (Sonepur).
