Dhamnagar by-poll: BJP’s Suryabanshi Suraj files nominations

Bhadrak: Suryabanshi Suraj, a member of the BJP, submitted his paperwork on Tuesday to run in the November 3 by-election for the Dhamnangar Assembly seat in the Bhadrak district of Odisha.

Suraj was accompanied by a number of top party figures when he filed his paperwork at the Collector's office in Bhadrak, including BJP state president Samir Mohanty, Leader of the Opposition Jayanarayan Mishra, and many more.

Suraj, the son of Bishnu Charan Sethi, whose passing has prompted the bypoll, travelled in a procession with a sizable number of fans and party members.

Senior BJP officials commenced their campaign for the byelection on Monday after the party announced Suraj as its candidate for the Dhamnagar by-election on Sunday.

Suraj visited Mangarajpur in the Tihidi region and had darshan of their local goddess before proceeding to submit the nomination. Additionally, he asked for the blessings of elders, such as his mother Urmila Panigrahi.

"Suraj has long worked to improve the neighbourhood and the welfare of the residents in the constituency. Although he is young and energetic, he needs everyone's blessings, according to his mother.

While the deadline for submitting a nomination is October 14, voting will take place on November 3, and the results will be announced on November 6.

By a margin of 4625 votes, Bishnu Sethi won the Dhamnagar election in 2019. In contrast to him, Rajendra K Das of the BJD received 75,486 votes.

In 2004, Manmohan Samal of the BJP won the seat; in 2009, Rajendra Das of the BJD and in 2014, Muktikanta Mondal of the BJD won it.
