Mandakinee Kar appointed as OSCPCR Chairperson

Bhubaneswar: Mandakinee Kar was named chair of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) on Tuesday.

Her appointment came two days after the Odisha government named more than two dozen Biju Janata Dal (BJD) politicians to various boards and state-owned enterprises on Sunday as chairpersons, advisors, and vice-chairmen.

Kar, a former member of the OSCPCR and state secretary for the governing BJD, also served as vice president of the Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD).

The OSCPCR, established by the state government in accordance with Section 17 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act of 2005, collaborates closely with the NCPCR, state-line agencies, and other state Commissions.

The Commission works to raise awareness of children's rights in the state at all levels and to represent children's interests and worries in programmes and policies that have an impact on their lives.
