Puri: A 17-year-old girl died under unknown circumstances in the Gop region of Odisha's Puri district, with her elder sister accusing her father and stepmother of murder. Monali Moharana was recognized as the dead (17).
Durgacharan, Monali's father, married Mamata Ojha in 2020 after his first wife died in 2018. Monali was allegedly mistreated by her father, stepmother, and maternal uncle Jeevan Ojha after their marriage.
Monali's elder sister Ranjita, who lives in Kolkata, claims that the trio murdered her sister on January 8 and burned her body at the cremation yard to erase evidence. The accused also cleaned and scrubbed the scene.
Ranjita arrived in the hamlet after learning of Monali's death and asked her father about her sister's body, then went to the cremation ground to find it clean.
Ranjita filed a report at the Gop police station right away, stating that Durgacharan, Mamata, and Jeevan were all complicit in Monali's murder. "Monali was the only person I had in my life after my mother departed," Ranjita told the journalists.
