Berhampur: On Friday, almost 30 individuals came dangerously near to drowning when their boat hit a snag at Chilika Lake.
The boat had left Janhikuda for Satpada early Friday morning, carrying around 30 passengers and roughly 15 two-wheelers.
The boat's engine stalled after about 1.5 kilometres and became stranded.
Police and firefighters launched a rescue operation after several passengers captured films and shared them on social media. There were no life jackets on any of the passengers.
A boat became bogged in the lake on April 6 in a similar event. Another boat, carrying 11 persons, capsized on May 6. Ten of them were saved, while one perished in the water.
