Puri: On Sunday, a floating bridge vessel carrying approximately 100 passengers and several vehicles became stranded in Chilika lake near Satapada in Odisha's Puri district.

According to sources, the incident occurred in the morning while the floating bridge vessel, or 'Bhasa Pola,' was traveling from Satapadi to Janhikuda in the district's Krushnaprasad block, leaving over 100 people stranded.

Aside from the passengers, the vessel was carrying two buses and some other vehicles, which were stranded after the floating bridge vessel developed a technical snag while traveling from Satpada to Janhikuda on Sunday.

After receiving information, officials rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation to bring the stranded passengers to safety. According to sources, special boars were used to transport the passengers to the shore.

While the exact cause of the incident is unknown, the vessel was said to have become stuck due to the lake's receding water level.

It should be noted that a floating bridge vessel carrying passengers had previously become stranded in the middle of Chilika. In July of last year, a Bhasa Pola became stranded in the lake, stranding approximately 60 passengers. Such incidents have become a major source of concern.
