Girl Dies, Sister Turns Critical After Having Frog Meat In Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A six-year-old tribal girl died and her younger sister was critically injured after consuming frog curry in Guruda, Keonjhar district, Odisha.

Sumitra Munda was identified as the deceased. Megha, her 4-year-old sister, has been admitted to Keonjhar's District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.

Sources say the two girls and their family members ate frog meat on Thursday night. The children's condition deteriorated after eating the meat, and they complained of vomiting and nausea before passing out.

However, their father Muna Munda (40), and other family members who ate the curry, were unaffected.

While Sumitra died on Friday, Megha was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

After registering an unnatural death case at the Bamebari police station, police launched an investigation. Sumitra's body was returned to her family after a post-mortem examination, according to police.

According to sources, frogs and toads have toxins in their glands to protect themselves from predators. If you eat them, you will be poisoned. Toxins can also be found in the skins of certain types of frogs.
