Mayurbhanj: In a move to protect the environment, girl students from Teladihudi village in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district tied rakhis to trees in the Udala block.

The girls gathered in the Kukudakhai forest region on Raksha Bandhan and performed puja near the trees. Before tying rakhis, they smeared chandan and vermillion to the trees.

“Trees play a vital role in our lives. We tie rakhi around our brothers' wrists to keep them safe, and they in turn protect us. Similarly, trees protect us in many ways and are also our brothers,” stated student Sushri Sangeeta Sahoo.

“People should think of trees in the same way they think of God. As a result, we performed puja and rakhi tying. Another student, Bandana Dalai, stated, "We want to transmit a message to the society that they should not remove trees."

Padu Das, an environmentalist, praised the youngsters' efforts.

“These young ladies did an excellent job in protecting the environment. Trees provide us with oxygen, which protects us. They're just like any other brother,” Das explained.
