Higher education institutions of Odisha to face an academic audit in July

Bhubaneswar: Academic auditing of public universities and autonomous colleges in Odisha will begin in July, and 22 academic specialists have been hired for the job.

"This would assist universities in applying for NAAC grades and NIRF rankings," Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo said during a workshop on 'NAAC accreditation, NIRF rating, autonomous status, and academic audit' held by the department at Rama Devi Women's University on Wednesday.

He emphasised the importance of making fundamental reforms to the higher education system in order to make it more student-centered. "While there have been many beneficial developments in the higher education sector," he continued, "far more needs to be done."

Saswat Mishra, the Secretary of State for Higher Education, has urged all universities and 32 autonomous institutions to focus on teaching and learning. "To be relevant, higher educational institutions must alter in response to time and change," he stated.

The Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) announced that it had begun a staged 'academic audit' of 12 state public universities and 32 autonomous institutions to assess education quality and identify strengths and deficiencies.

Academic audits of Rama Devi Women's University, BJB Autonomous College, Bhubaneswar, and Prananath (Autonomous) College, Khurda were undertaken in the first phase, with the process likely to be completed by the end of this year.
