Sambalpur: Authorities at the Hirakud Dam want to open four sluice gates on Monday to let extra water out of the reservoir after a lot of rain. The gates will gradually open starting at 10 am.

At 6 a.m. on Monday, the reservoir's water level was 629.27 feet higher than its 630-foot storage limit. The output is 40,680 cusecs while the input is 91,508 cusecs of water.

Heavy rainfall is expected in the state from Monday through Thursday as a result of a potential low-pressure system that is expected to form over the northwest and adjacent westcentral Bay of Bengal off the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. This warning comes from the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar.

From 8.30 am on September 19 through 8.30 am on September 20, there is an orange warning for extremely heavy rain.

On September 19, the orange warning signal was sounded in the districts of Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Ganjam, and Puri. On September 20, it was sounded in the districts of Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, and Nayagarh. On September 21, it was sounded in the districts of Bargarh, Balangir, and Nuapada.
