Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, the Centre revealed the names of 67 Odisha Police officers who will get Police Medals for Gallantry.

Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay expressed gratitude to the Centre for recognising the gallantry and courage of Odisha Police personnel, noting that this is the greatest number of medals ever announced for Odisha Police on one occasion. For us, it is a source of pride and joy.

The award was given in recognition of police officers' bravery during nine different firefights with Left-Wing Extremists.

“While we honour the sacrifice of our dead and praise the gallantry and bravery of our men, we appeal to Maoists to lay down their arms and join the mainstream,” the DGP stated.
