Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has granted Dharanidhar Autonomous College in Odisha's Keonjhar district university status.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) and (2) of Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Odisha Act 5 of 1989), the State Government do hereby alter the territorial Jurisdiction of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada, Mayurbhanj by establishing a new University," the Higher Education Department said in a notification dated 11 February 2023.
It was also stated that the new university will be known as Dharanidhar University with effect from the date of notification in the Odisha gazette.
According to sources, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is expected to visit Koenjhar on Monday to dedicate the new University.
VK Pandian, Secretary to the CM (5T), also posted a video showing the varsity notification to the CM. "Exciting news for Keonjhar. The historic Dharanidhar Autonomous College is elevated to the status of university. "This historic decision by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will greatly benefit students in Keonjhar district and surrounding areas," he wrote.
Vikram Deb Autonomous College (VDAC), Jeypore, Koraput district, was granted varsity status earlier this month, a day before Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's visit to the institute as a chief guest as it begins its two-day platinum jubilee celebrations.
