Bhubaneswar: Alleging involvement of ruling BJD figures, including Ministers, in murder, sexual assault, and other crimes, the BJP threatened a 4-hour 'Satyagraha' across Odisha on Saturday to protest the state's deteriorating law and order situation.

State BJP president Samir Mohanty told a press conference in Bhubaneswar that the party will stage a four-hour 'Satyagraha' near statues of great individuals on December 26 to protest the state government's claimed failure to maintain peace and order. According to him, the party would oppose escalating occurrences of atrocities against women and the criminalization of politics by the ruling BJD.

He said that during the last 23 years of BJD control, Oidisha has become a safe haven for criminals and anti-social forces, but that the people of the state are peace-loving and proud of Jagannath culture.

However, the top BJP leader stated that BJD leaders, including Ministers, had been implicated in murder, sexual assault, and anti-woman actions over the last 23 years.

Mohanty slammed the BJD government, claiming that an increase in crimes, particularly against women, appears to be the regional party's only accomplishment.

Former Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra's involvement in the Mamita Meher murder case is being investigated, he said, adding that the death of Gobinda, the prime accused in the case, in Kantabanji jail in Balangir district has raised many questions because it occurred just before his scheduled appearance before a local court.

Mohanty claimed that Sahu was murdered inside the jail because the leaders engaged in the case were afraid he would expose them.

In an attack on the BJD government over the Mahanga double murder case, the BJP leader stated that former Minister Pratap Jena's involvement was being investigated. Surprisingly, the main suspect in the case was killed by a truck, he claimed.

Similarly, Mohanty alleged that Gop Zilla Parishad Member Dharemdnra Sahoo used the name of School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash in his last video.
