Odisha CM inaugurates Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium at Rourkela
Rourkela: On Thursday, the Odisha Chief Minister opened the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Sundargarh district.
The newly constructed Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela will serve as the second venue for the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, which will take place from January 13 to 29. Rourkela will host 20 of the 44 matches, with the remaining 24, including the final, at Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Stadium.
The first match between India and Spain will be contested here on January 13. India will face England at the same site two days later.
The Chief Minister also released a book named 'Odisha Re Hockey' (Hockey in Odisha), which was published by the Department of School and Mass Education. The book is about the history of hockey in Sundargarh and Odisha's involvement in promoting India's national sport.
In addition, Naveen launched Mo Bus services in Rourkela with 30 vehicles to ensure smooth transportation, particularly during the hockey world cup match.
