Bhubaneswar: 3 arrested in woman SI ‘chased’ case
Bhubaneswar: Three people were arrested in connection with an alleged attack attempt on Subhashree Nayak, SI of Mahila police station in Odisha's capital, while she was returning home from night duty.
According to sources, in addition to arresting the trio for allegedly following and threatening the female cop late on Tuesday, the Commissionerate Police have seized an Innova automobile. "The three are professional drivers and have admitted to driving the vehicle to the location," DCP Bhubaneswar Prateek Singh told reporters on Thursday.
Nayak had spotted that the driver of a car with whom she had a dispute about giving way on the road had followed her to the Reserve Police Office. She then filed a complaint with the Saheed Nagar police. "The accused were in the vicinity on the nights of January 1 and 2 and had consumed alcohol. When the SI overtook them, the accused followed her to the gate before fleeing. They were identified using CCTV footage and other intelligence sources, and police teams were dispatched to Puri, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur at the same time," he added.
Further investigation into the matter is underway, and their homes will be investigated, according to the DCP, who added that it was an isolated event and that they are not regular criminals.
