'One Rupee' Service of an Odisha doctor now includes medicine
Sambalpur: The doctor behind Odisha's 'One Rupee' clinic has expanded his services to include drugs for poor people who visit him for consultation.
Shankar Ramchandani, an assistant professor in the department of medicine at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, is the subject of our discussion. On the first anniversary of his facility, he launched the 'One Rupee' drug on Saturday.
He now also sells drugs at Re 1 to his patients. He launched the clinic on February 12 last year to fulfil his late father's desire, Brahmananda Ramchandani, but he has renamed it after his mother, Lajbanti.
These two services are also part of his long-standing commitment to give free medical care to the poor and impoverished who do not have access to it outside of duty hours.
The clinic, which is located in Burla's Kachha Market district, is open from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
