One killed, another injured in elephant attack in Khordha

Khurda: A farmer was murdered and another was severely injured in an elephant attack in the Tangi area of Odisha's Khurda district.

According to accounts, the tragedy occurred late Sunday night in Siko village, Tangi forest range. Ratnakar Behera, a local farmer, has been identified as the deceased.

Ratnakar and another villager, Dinabandhu Baral, raced to the threshing yard near his house after hearing some commotion. When the pair encountered two elephants, one of the creatures attacked both of them.

The villagers rescued the two and transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Khurda, where Ratnakar was certified dead by the attending doctor.

Dinabandhu was taken to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment after suffering grave injuries. His condition is described as critical.

Following the receipt of information, forest and police authorities visited the scene and initiated an investigation into the occurrence.
