Orissa HC Directs Govt To File New Report On Covid Vaccination In Old Age Homes

Cuttack: On Tuesday, the Orissa High Court ordered the state government to provide a new detailed report on the status of COVID immunisation among old age home inmates.

The court expressed its dissatisfaction after reading an affidavit presented by the administration on COVID immunisation among the elderly and differently abled residents in the state by August 31. The court noted that the report lacked the details of the numbers that had been requested earlier.

The court set the next hearing on October 7 after ordering the government to produce a new document detailing the number of old age homes and their occupants, as well as how many of them had been vaccinated.

The court had requested a comprehensive report from the government on the efforts taken for doorstep vaccination of the elderly and persons with disabilities (PwDs) by September 7 in response to a PIL demanding a vaccination facility at the doorstep of old and differently abled people.

It also required exact numbers for the number of people in each category who received both doses of COVID vaccine, as well as the proportion of the relevant populations covered by the vaccination campaign.

The court also ordered the government to provide an affidavit by October 4 detailing the efforts taken to expedite immunisation.

The court ordered the government to submit a new document after finding anomalies in the COVID death figures in the affidavit.
