Orissa High Court quashes petitions over irregularities in ASO exams
Cuttack: On Monday, the Orissa High Court refused to hear candidates submitting applications alleging anomalies in the Assistant Section Officer (ASO) examination selection process.
The court ordered the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to publish the results of the recruitment examination in accordance with the 2016 policy.
The court also ordered the Commission to publish the results of all candidates who took the exam. The OPSC has been directed to reveal the results after completing the recruitment process.
The petitioners alleged that the OPSC published an advertisement in December 2021 to fill 796 ASO positions but did not identify the procedure or conditions of selection. In February, it released a corrigendum based on its prior rules from September 3, 2016, stating that the merit list will include the caste, gender, name, and roll number of candidates, but not their scores.
They claimed that it was done to help some candidates pass the exam and that the OPSC failed to maintain transparency throughout the selection process.
After hearing the arguments, the court ordered the development of a merit list in accordance with the standards of September 3, 2016.
The court also ordered the OPSC to accept the merit list it had already produced but to publish data about the candidates' marks and cut off marks.
The OPSC ASO test was held to fill 796 positions in the Odisha Secretariat Service, and the results were revealed on November 7. A total of 1104 candidates passed the written exam and were shortlisted for document verification and a skill test.
Following complaints of irregularities in the selection process and demonstration by several candidates, the OPSC issued a statement dismissing all of the aspirants' allegations as frivolous and false.
