PM Narendra Modi To Visit Odisha This Month

Bhubaneswar: According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Odisha in the third week of June to inaugurate four projects in Paradip.

The Prime Minister's Office, on the other hand, has yet to make a formal announcement about the itinerary and schedule.

Meanwhile, the Paradip Port authorities have begun planning for the event, which would take place at the town's Gopabandhu Stadium. According to reports, a new helipad is being built ahead of the PM's visit. The event is expected to draw over 2,000 attendees.

His planned visit to the port town will be his second. In 2016, he opened an oil refinery for the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL).

In particular, efforts are underway to rebuild Odisha's Paradip port into a world-class modern port capable of handling capsized vessels, at a cost of over Rs 3,000 crore, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal for the development of Eastern States. This includes the development of the new Western Dock at a cost of Rs 2,040 crore on a build, operate, and transfer basis, as well as capital dredging by the selected concessionaire at a cost of Rs 352.13 crore; and Paradip Port's investment of Rs 612.50 crore in Common Supporting Project Infrastructure.

This visit has significance for the upcoming presidential elections in July, in addition to dedicating major projects. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is expected to play a key role, with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government requiring at least 1.2 percent (approximately 13,000 votes) of the vote to pass its candidate. The BJD has 112 MLAs and 12 MPs, accounting for roughly 3% of the total vote value of 1,093,347.

On May 30, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The South Block meeting lasted around 30 minutes.
