Padampur by-poll: BJD candidates caught distributing money

Bargarh: A day before the Padampur byelection in Odisha, tensions rose in Sareikela village in the Assembly constituency when residents said they had caught two BJD employees reportedly distributing money among voters on Sunday.

According to reports, residents of Sareikela in the Paikamal block of the Bargarh district saw some people allegedly distributing money to voters. They apprehended and imprisoned two workers, while three others escaped.

When the locals inquired about the cause for their visit, the two were unable to provide a satisfactory response. It was said that the purported ruling party workers arrived in the area in a car before handing out cash to the voters.

After being informed of the event, a team of police officers arrived in the area and rescued the detained individuals. The police squad calmed the irate people.

When contacted, Bargarh Superintendent of Police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas stated that the event is being investigated and that if the claims are proven genuine, suitable action will be done.

It should be remembered that the Padampur Assembly by-election will be place on Monday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
