Petrol tanker falls off bridge in Nayagarh; 4 burnt alive, 1 critical
Nayagarh: An oil tanker burst late Friday night after sliding over the Bada Pandusara bridge in Itamati, Odisha's Nayagarh district, killing four people and critically injuring another.
The tanker, which was travelling from Cuttack to Sambalpur, collided with the bridge's crash barrier when the driver lost control and tumbled off, plunging into the Kusumi River. Around 1.45 a.m., the incident occurred.
Locals rushed to save the driver and other passengers in the tanker. The tanker, which was fully laden with oil, detonated minutes later. Driver Sameer Nayak and assistant Pankaj Nayak were among the four people who died in the fire. Dipu Khatua and Chandan Khatua, the other two victims, were locals who were attempting to save the driver and helper.
Another man sustained significant injuries. He was transported to the district headquarters hospital in Nayagarh. After his condition worsened, he was transferred to Bhubaneswar.
Later, police and firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident.
