Pradhan bats for mega Textile Park in Odisha under PM-MITRA scheme

Bhubaneswar: While the government in Odisha is preparing to submit its application to the Center for the Establishment of a PM-MITRA park, Union Minister for Education Dharmendre Pradhan asked Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal to examine the state's greenfield park.

PM PM MITRA is established on Greenfield/Brownfield sites in different states in accordance with a notice from the Ministry of Textiles. The Center is providing 30 percent of the capital of project costs for a park in Greenfield with a ceiling of €5500 crore. The balance infrastructure and other support facilities of Brownfield would amount to 30 percent with a maximum of Rs 200 pounds.

Odisha has been able to attract investment in the textiles and apparel business, according to Pradhan, with its rich heritage and indigenous skill in the textile sector.

"Odisha's handloom goods are known for their design and quality around the world. Sambalpuri, Bomkei and Berhampuri has several designs. Odisha is also known for its weaving Ikat kind," he said.

He also stated clothing and textiles, especially technological textiles, are one of the state's six core industries. In accordance with the State government's clothing policy, a capital subsidy of 20% of the project costs is now available to the businesses up to Rs 20 crore, while an interest-free credit up to 10% is accessible to the industry, Pradhan added.

While Sahi Exports, Aditya Birla Fashion and numerous others are already building their production facilities in Odisha, the minister is sorry to be able to build two textile and clothing areas in Malipada.

The state government, meanwhile, organised on Monday an initiative in Bhubaneswar to draught its application for the PM MITRA park, for the national conference on "Making Odisha the Textile Hub of the East."
