Public Health Director and WHO Team Visit Cholera-Affected Villages in Rayagada

Rayagada: The World Health Organization (WHO) special team and the director of public health visited the affected areas on Thursday as cholera spread to further villages in the Kasipur block of Odisha's Rayagada district.

Along with a group of experts, Dr. Nirnjan Mishra, Director of Public Health, visited various hospitals where patients had been admitted and inquired about their health. He conversed with the doctors about the ongoing treatment while also meeting the patients' families. Dr. Mishra afterwards discussed the subject with the authorities.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Mishra stated that the consumption of contaminated water was the primary cause of the cholera outbreak and that steps were being taken to stop its spread. He was accompanied on the visit by MP Saptagiri Ulaka and Rayagada district collector Swadha Dev Singh.

The WHO's special team visited the villages' water sources and took samples for testing in the lab. Additionally, they made an effort to identify the disease's underlying causes.

More than 20 villages have reportedly been affected by cholera, according to sources. 80 patients are currently receiving care at four hospitals in Kasipur. Additionally, special arrangements have been prepared for the care of cholera patients at the Rayagada district hospital.

While the sickness has claimed the lives of 8, 4 additional people have been declared to be in critical condition. On Thursday, one of the critically ill patients was transferred to SLN Medical College in Koraput.

According to the sources, the number of afflicted people has been increasing in the villages of Mallijharan, Surugunja, Tikiri, Gobarighati, Jalakura, Dudukabahal, Badamaribhatta, Kakudipadar, and Routghati.
