Bhubaneswar: Droupadi Murmu, a candidate for the NDA, was chosen as India's 15th president on Thursday.

After the third round of voting, Murmu received 5,77,777 votes to Yashwant Sinha's 2,61,062 votes for the opposition candidate. After the most recent tally, Murmu exceeded the 50% threshold to win the presidential election, according to Business Today.

In the last round, there were 1,333 total valid votes, according to Rajya Sabha Secretary General and Returning Officer PC Mody, who announced the results. 1,65,664 valid votes were cast overall.

Murmu won 540 of the 776 MP votes in the first round of counting, while Sinha garnered 208. The total number of valid votes was 5,23,600. After the second round, Murmu had a sizable lead over Sinha, receiving 1,349 votes to Sinha's 543.

On July 25, Murmu will take the oath in place of Ram Nath Kovind. On July 24, Kovind's term as the 14th President comes to a conclusion.

Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated Murmu on her election. “Congratulate the daughter of Odisha, Smt Droupadi Murmu on being elected as 15th President of India. It is indeed a very proud moment for everyone in Odisha that she has been elected for the highest office in the country,” Naveen said in a tweet.
