Cuttack: A special squad of Commissionerate Police raided 13 hookah parlors in various areas of Cuttack, Odisha, for allegedly using suspicious and contraband substances.
"Hookahs, 141 pipes, and 152 flavor packets were seized. "Further verification is underway," said Cuttack DCP PInak Mishra, adding that the Saturday night raids were based on specific information.
While hookah parlors claim to use only herbal materials, the seized material contained nicotine.
According to reports, hookah parlours are open in secret on Jail Road, Mahatab Road, Jobra Road, Khapuria Labour Colony, and CDA-Sector 10 in the city, and students frequently frequent them.
Three hookah parlors inside a mall were closed down in 2022 after a girl reportedly lost her senses while visiting one on Jail Road.
