Tea seller repairs a public road on his own money in Mayurbhanj
Mayurbhanj: A tea vendor has done what others with greater resources lack the courage to accomplish. On Tuesday, he spent his own money to fix a broken road in Udala, Mayurbhanj district's Kaptipada sub-division.
Purnachandra Rout, a Ward Number-10 inhabitant, has a tea stall in the High School square. His entire family relies on his money from here to get by. He makes a little, yet that doesn't stop him from assisting others and improving his environment.
On the damaged road in front of his shop, there occur several accidents. Purnachandra decided to take action after multiple complaints for repairs went unanswered.
“Because of the pits, there used to be an accident here every other day. I couldn't stand seeing others get hurt any longer. In a recent collision, a biker was badly hurt. That's when I realised I couldn't stop myself. Purnachandra recalled, "With the help of my elder brother Kalia, I instantly collected the requisite material and filled the pits."
The Works Department is responsible for the roads in the Udala High School Square.
Purnachandra's efforts are, without a doubt, lauded by the locals.
“On that journey, we've had a lot of issues. I'd want to express my gratitude to Purnachandra for repairing it with his own money. It is a major thoroughfare, and as a rule, the government should restore it,” remarked local resident Sibaram Soren.
Purnachandra, on the other hand, is accustomed to making such motions. During the lockdown, he looked after mentally ill people who were living on the streets. He used to take care of their hygiene in addition to feeding them. He used to be bothered by stray animals.
